The cure for breast cancer gets one step closer every year. Today, it is virtually impossible to find someone who doesn’t have a relative or close friend affected by cancer or faced it themselves.
As far reaching as cancer is, there is something that can be done. Either by volunteerism, participation, or donation, offering support to those searching to end this ugly disease helps them get closer to crucial breakthroughs in diagnosis and treatments.
atlantageorgiabusinesses.wordpress.com compiled the following information that offers insight into the number of people affected by cancer, and how people nationwide are doing something to stop it.
Cancer Statistics in 2018
In the United States, this year alone, it is estimated that over 1.7 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed and nearly 610 thousand people will lose their fight with the disease.
Of the above numbers, over 265 thousand women are expected to be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and another 64 thousand with non-invasive breast cancer. Although death rates have been steadily decreasing since 1989, nearly 41 thousand women are expected to die this year from breast cancer.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Each year, the organization Making Strides Against Breast Cancer holds events which unite communities with a common goal and shared determination to save the lives of those fighting breast cancer.
Their efforts are directed towards raising funds for the American Cancer Society to fight breast cancer through continuing research and early detection.
The kickoff event was held in early August and fundraising will continue through October. You can donate, join the Atlanta walk, or lead a team in the effort to honor breast cancer survivors and ensure that anyone with this disease never has to walk alone.
The sooner you start, the more money you will be able to raise. The more you raise, the more incentive prizes you can earn. This year to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, $20 is the initial required donation fee!
This fee counts towards your fundraising goal! Your $20 initial donation could help provide free access to the 24-hour hotline for information & support at 1-800-227-2345 or could help give a free ride to and from treatment, or even a follow-up appointment from the Road to Recovery program?
On Saturday, October 27, 2018, registration opens at 7:00 am at:
755 Battery Avenue
And the walk begins at 9:00 am.
Where Does the Money Go?
Having faced it yourself, or someone you love has, nearly every single person has been affected in some way by breast cancer.
We can collectively do something about it though. Donating to any Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event you are aiding the American Cancer Society to make substantial differences in many ways, such as funding breast cancer research or providing a hand to hold.
If you would like to learn more about the Making Strides of Atlanta event (Presented By Independent Insurance Agents For A Cure) or for more information, the call is toll-free at 1-800-227-2345. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
